MONTEREY, CA — LanguageLine Solutions planted more than 70,000 trees across 35 countries and five continents since the launch of its Angela’s Trees initiative on Earth Day 2022, the company announced today. This year alone, over 29,000 trees were planted globally, reflecting the organization’s steadfast commitment to environmental sustainability and honoring the memory of Angela Witmer, LanguageLine’s former Director of Business Process Improvement.
Witmer, a passionate advocate for environmental stewardship, played a pivotal role in leading LanguageLine through the rigorous process of becoming Green Business Certified. She passed away in 2022, and her legacy is honored through Angela’s Trees, which plants a tree for every new interpreter hired by LanguageLine.
“Our Angela’s Trees initiative is a meaningful way to honor Angela Witmer’s memory while demonstrating our ongoing commitment to sustainability and social impact,” LanguageLine President and CEO Simon Yoxon-Grant said. “Planting trees not only helps the environment but also strengthens communities around the world, and we are proud to contribute to this essential work.”
The program’s December 2024 efforts supported the Women’s Empowerment Fund for Reforestation, a project that not only promotes sustainability but also empowers women to lead environmental initiatives. Research highlights that women-led reforestation projects yield stronger community engagement and more impactful outcomes, aligning seamlessly with LanguageLine’s core values of equity and inclusivity.
Angela’s Trees is part of a broader environmental initiative by LanguageLine’s parent company, Teleperformance, which has committed to planting 500,000 trees in collaboration with One Tree Planted. To date, Teleperformance’s fundraising efforts have generated enough donations to plant an additional 25,000 trees. These projects help rebuild forests, restore biodiversity, and create social impact by providing jobs globally.
LanguageLine’s dedication to environmental responsibility extends beyond tree planting. The company actively participates in Teleperformance’s Citizen of the Planet program, contributing to the parent company’s achievement of a 49% reduction in carbon emissions per employee—four years ahead of schedule. LanguageLine further supports these efforts through coastal cleanup projects, laptop recycling programs, and technological innovations designed to reduce carbon emissions.
Since its inception, Angela’s Trees has made a meaningful impact, starting with the planting of 3,000 trees in Northern California, Witmer’s birthplace. With a focus on sustainability and community, LanguageLine continues to honor her legacy while building a greener future for the planet.
