In recent years, we’ve seen a massive increase in Korean as a spoken language. With South Korea’s expanding global export markets and improving economic status, it is undeniable that Korean has become one of the most popular languages for learning.
Did you know?
The Korean language, is spoken by more than 75 million people, of whom 48 million live in South Korea and 24 million in North Korea. There are more than 2 million speakers in China, approximately 1 million in the United States, and about 500,000 in Japan.
Like Japanese, Korean has a complex system of honorifics, which involves different verb endings and a vocabulary depending on the relationship you have with the person you are addressing.
Though the Korean language has existed for well over a thousand years, its alphabet (called hangul) wasn’t formalized until the 15th century. Before that, written Korean used Chinese characters.
