Interpreter Careers
Use Your Expertise To Do Good
Working as an interpreter is a rewarding career in which you help people every day. From assisting with the birth of a baby, to supporting a 9-1-1 operator with an emergency or helping a young couple fill out a home loan application, you never know what may happen in your next interpreting session.
Each LanguageLine call is a three-way conversation between you (the interpreter), the client, and their customer. As an interpreter, you listen to a limited-English proficient individual, analyze what they say, and accurately convey its meaning.
Our interpreters are trained to follow national and international standards for interpreter protocol, including the ability to accurately render information in two languages, while maintaining the pace of the conversation and a neutral point of view. Successful candidates must demonstrate:
- A clear understanding of meaning in two or three languages
- Accurate rendering of information with no addition or omissions
- A pleasant, professional demeanor and voice
- Proper diction, enunciation, and pronunciation
- Efficient notetaking and retention skills
- Basic computer skills
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Strong cultural sensitivity

Work At Home interpreters must have Internet service with a speed of at least 5 Mbps (download) and 1 Mbps (upload). A recruiter will provide further details during the interview process.
