Professional interpreters also have great interpersonal skills and an understanding of the nuances of the cultures in which they work.
Knowledge of the Field
Some testing is designed to qualify interpreters for work in a specific field, such as in a courtroom or healthcare organization. The interpreter must be familiar and comfortable with technical terms, industry jargon, and broad concepts in English before attempting to communicate them in another language.
Ongoing Interpreter Training
Interpretation is an evolving field, with new technologies being introduced all the time. You want the interpreter at your business meeting to be familiar with your industry as it exists today, not five years ago or even a year ago. Make sure your LEP provides formal interpreter training.
