I've dedicated much of my career to language services and recently returned to LanguageLine after serving as CEO of one of our sister companies for five years. Stepping back into this role, one phrase has lingered in my mind: “What got us here will not necessarily get us there.” 
 
This saying feels especially relevant as rapid advancements in AI and technology reshape the future of language services. Our industry, long anchored in traditional translation and interpretation methods, now stands at a crossroads. Technology presents remarkable possibilities but also raises pressing ethical questions.
 
As AI capabilities expand, we face an inflection point that requires careful thought. Our choices will determine whether we build a more connected, inclusive world—or one where language barriers are amplified by automation and bias.
