Language Line Services and AT&T Team up to Connect Businesses With Nation's Culturally Diverse Population
MONTEREY, CA — (September 14, 2006) — Language Line Services, the global leader of over-the-phone language interpretation today introduced Your World. Your Language.SM, a nationwide telephone-based service connecting limited English speaking consumers to banking, insurance, telephone, Internet, utility and other vital business services in their native languages toll-free within their local MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area). AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) will play a major role in the initiative, providing the network and serving as a telecommunications partner.
When limited English speaking customers call Your World. Your Language.SM they will be able to choose their preferred language and service. A Language Line Services interpreter will then connect the customer with the requested provider, and service is completed through a three-way conversation. Your World. Your Language.SM will serve customers in eight languages and is being launched in San Francisco on October 18, 2006.
Language Line Services developed the patent-pending technology that makes Your World. Your Language.SM possible, and will provide the specially-trained and experienced interpreters. AT&T will operate the network, and will be responsible for the routing of calls through Your World. Your Language’s toll-free number 888-855-0811.
“More people than ever before are finding it difficult to communicate for even the most basic things, like trying to order phone and TV service in a new home, or setting up a bank account.” said Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services’ newly appointed President and Chief Operating Officer. “The variety of languages spoken in the U.S. makes it virtually impossible and uneconomical for organizations to provide adequate interpreters of their own.”
According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the legal permanent resident flow in the U.S. in 2005 reached more than one million. Provenzano noted that most enter into multilingual communities with niche economies where they only need limited English proficiency to survive financially.
“Your World. Your Language.SM will enable businesses to enter tight-knit, multilingual communities and reach customers who prefer to do business with companies that speak their languages,” said Provenzano.
“Limited English speaking consumers are four times as likely to buy a product or service in their preferred language,” said Jody Garcia, vice president of Specialty Customer Care for AT&T West. “More and more companies are realizing that providing multi-language channels is not only a convenience for customers, but a necessity for growing business in an increasingly diverse marketplace.”
Language Line Services and AT&T unveiled the customer acquisition application today to marketing and sales executives and leaders of the nation’s top consumer and commercial service companies at an event hosted by the City of San Francisco. Nationwide and regional businesses are now being offered the opportunity to become World PartnersSM and sell their products and services through Your World. Your Language.SM
Language Line Services and AT&T chose to launch the service in San Francisco because it is one of the most diverse cities in the country, where Asian-born citizens make up more than half of the foreign born population. The service will be offered in Cantonese (Chinese), English, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin (Chinese), Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. The San Francisco launch will be followed by a nationwide roll-out of Your World. Your Language.SM over the next 12 months in the country’s most culturally diverse communities.
