Your World. Your Language.SM street teams walked alongside the 311 Customer Service Center parade float and celebrated in the Lunar New Year festivities
San Francisco, MA — (March 12, 2007) — The recently concluded Lunar New Year celebration in Chinatown marked Your World. Your Language.’s first-ever Chinese New Year parade participation. Your World. Your Language. is a free, telephone-based service that allows limited English speaking consumers to communicate in their own languages with companies situated within their local service areas.
Consumers can access Your World. Your Language., by dialing 1-888-855-0811. An easy-to-navigate menu of languages and services will quickly connect them to a local business of their choice. A professional interpreter will collect key information from the caller in his or her language, and then place the call to the selected business, remaining on the line to facilitate communication between the consumer and the business’s English-speaking customer representative.
The array of services available include banking, including credit card, mortgage and investment services; insurance, including auto, home, and small business insurance; utilities, including electric, gas, water and trash services; telecommunications, including voice, cable, and internet services; hospitality and travel, including entertainment services; and city/public services.
According to Winnie Heh, Vice President of Global Operations for Language Line Services, “The Lunar New Year event can be equated to Christmas for us Chinese. It is the time to be around family and friends. That’s why it is the perfect occasion to spread the good news about the free service Your World. Your Language. offers to Mandarin and Cantonese speaking customers.”
In tandem with 311 Customer Service Center, the non-emergency city services toll-free line, a Year of the Pig-inspired float was showcased in the city’s biggest and most anticipated Chinese celebration. Street teams flooded the downtown San Francisco parade route distributing flyers and magnets that provided helpful information about the free service.
After the parade, Edwin Lee, City Administrator of the City and County of San Francisco, commented, “No doubt, with Language Line Services at the helm providing interpreting services, we can be assured that citizens, businesses and visitors will have an excellent customer experience while conducting business transactions or requesting city services in their native language.”
Your World. Your Language., first launched in San Francisco in October of 2006, has since expanded to the entire Bay Area and Southern California, including Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. Language Line Services expects to have introduced Your World. Your Language. to all major U.S. markets by end of 2008.
