Language Line Services and AT&T Team Up To Connect Businesses With California's Culturally Diverse Population

Los Angeles — (January 19, 2007) — Selling to Southern California’s growing population of limited English speakers has never been easier thanks to Your World. Your Language SM., the first-ever free interpretation phone service, which launches today in Southern California. Created by Language Line Services, the global leader of over-the-phone language interpretation, and powered by the new AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Your World. Your Language. connects businesses that want to expand their multilingual customer base with the limited English speakers who need their services.

Language Line Services developed the patent-pending technology that makes Your World. Your Language. possible, and provides the specially-trained and experienced interpreters. AT&T operates the network, and is responsible for routing calls through Your World. Your Language’s toll-free number 888-855-0811.

Immigration is playing an increasing role in the United States’ population growth, which surged to 300 million this year. According to the Census Bureau, every 31 seconds someone who speaks little if any English enters the United States. Louis Provenzano, Language Line Services’ president and chief operating officer, noted that most immigrants enter into tight-knit communities with niche economies where they only need limited English proficiency to survive financially.

“The variety of languages spoken in the U.S. makes it virtually impossible and uneconomical for businesses to provide adequate interpreters of their own,” said Provenzano.

The U.S. Census also shows that Los Angeles has the largest Latino population of any major American city. Additionally, Los Angeles is home to more Koreans than anywhere else outside of North and South Korea, and more Filipinos than anywhere outside Manila.

“Your World. Your Language. will enable businesses to enter Southern California’s multilingual communities and reach customers who are ready to buy, but prefer to do business with companies that speak their languages,” added Provenzano.

Your World. Your Language. currently serves customers in eight languages including: Cantonese (Chinese), Japanese, Korean, Mandarin (Chinese), Russian, Spanish, Tagalog and Vietnamese. Originally launched in San Francisco, the telephone-based interpreter service is now available to limited English speakers throughout Southern California, and will roll-out nationwide by the close of 2008.

“Limited English speaking consumers are four times as likely to buy a product or service in their preferred language,” said Jody Garcia, vice president of Specialty Customer Care for AT&T West. “More and more companies are realizing that providing multi-language channels is not only a convenience for customers, but a necessity for growing business in an increasingly diverse marketplace.”

Your World. Your Language. is free for consumers. Businesses that join the Your World. Your Language WorldPartner SM network are charged on a per call basis, paying only for calls placed through the service to their customer representatives.

When limited English speakers or tourists call Your World. Your Language. they reach an easy to navigate menu that first prompts them to select their preferred language and then a particular business category to call. A specially trained Language Line Services interpreter then joins the line, connects the caller to the selected business and remains on the line to carry out communication between the consumer and the business’s English-speaking customer representative.

Sample banking, credit card, insurance, health, telephone, utility, travel, transportation, city and social service organizations signed on to offer their services to Southern California’s limited-English speakers through Your World. Your Language include: 1-800-DENTIST®, AT&T, Cingular Wireless, Citibank, Dish Network, and Orbitz. For more information about Your World. Your Language.SM visit www.YourWorldYourLanguage.com
